From the recording Goldfish Diaries

Lyrics

Breathe hard as you request those hands
It's nothing but a floor and a dance
Hello and goodbye are the hardest
Only air holds back this heart attack

Breathe hard as you sprint to the cliff at the quarry
The pool is black and deep
Just the fallen know what lies beneath
Only air holds back
Only air holds back this heart attack

Breathe hard as the mountains roll into plains
as a stone skips across a lake
and a moment ripples to far off places
Only air holds back
Only air holds back
Only air holds back this heart attack

track notes:
The Last Quarry is a look at the frailty of life and was inspired by a heart surgery I underwent four weeks before moving to Los Angeles. During the process of the album and working with the prolific and talented Chris Koza, he challenged me to try writing a few more verses to see if I could come up with something even better than my original lyric. After careful consideration I dropped the first two verses, moved the last verse to the first and came up with a more concise description of what I felt in my heart. Also learned a good lesson in songwriting which is you never trade down. The worst thing that can happen if you come up with something not as good as what you had is that you keep what you had!
